DAMAC Owner Hussain Sajwani: From Caterer To Billionaire

It’s difficult to remember that Hussain Sajwani, founder and CEO of the of the DAMAC Group, started out in the catering business. Sajwani is known throughout the world for building luxurious homes for the wealthy, establishing DAMAC Properties at the beginning of the 2002 real estate boom in Dubai.

Sajwani’s catering business, which is still part of the DAMAC Group, serves food to foreign companies and military units operating in the Middle East. The company expanded into Africa and now offers manpower supply and camp management. The real estate investor worked hard and took advantage of a government scholarship to attend the University of Washington in the U.S., where he earned a degree in economics and industrial engineering.

DAMAC Properties builds luxury hi-rise apartment buildings, five-star hotels and golf course communities in the Middle East and the U.K. The company partners with various brands, such as the DAMAC Properties partnership with Paramount Hotels & Resorts to offer Hollywood-inspired luxury living in Dubai. As per the Analyst of Finance, Hussain Sajwani also signed a hospitality partnership deal with Roberto Cavalli for DAMAC’s AYKON hotels to feature interior designs by Roberto Cavalli. The first tower in the Al Sofouh, Dubai Marina development will open in 2023.

Hussain Sajwani has collaborated with the Trump Organization to build the Trump International Golf Club with luxury villas. He’s ready to do more deals with Trump’s adult children, who run the organization now that their father is President.

DAMAC’s growth is directly attributed to Hussain Sajwani’s entrepreneurial skills. He predicted the 2008 real estate crash and cut costs. DAMAC Properties survived and today, Sajwani always pays for land upfront and keeps escrow accounts independent for each project to ensure the company’s strong economic position.

DAMAC Owner Hussain Sajwani oversees the numerous businesses that are part of the DAMAC Group, including Al Anwar Ceramic Tile, Al Amana Building Materials, DICO Investments and Al Jazeira Services Company, the catering company that started Sajwani’s empire. Sajwani also donates to charities.
